Without Mum
By Amanda

Without you I won’t comb my hair,
I’ll get filthy and will swing on my chair.
I’ll have to do the dishes, all by myself
And won’t put my books back on the shelf.
My school sock won’t be with its pair,
That’s when you’re not taking care.

The house would be a complete mess,
And everyone will care less.
‘Bout wearing clean underwear,
And they might even dare
To wear it a month! A year!
And when driving Dad might steer,
Swiftly and not caring at all,
If he will crash on a wall,
No, not at all…

Without you, everyone will be slack,
So please, sooner come back!

The truth is… I don’t remember ever writing a poem at all, so it astounds me to find a folder under my name dedicated to “Poems” I wrote… almost four years ago! Not to mention with a bright, radioactive green title and neon pink text.

I think this was written when my mother went back to Indonesia for a while and took my littlest sister along with her, so in Australia, the only one who took care of our family was my father! Well, he did a spectacular job, but of course there were times when a mother’s presence simply cannot be replaced.

Like… he can’t tell himself off when he gets himself another speeding ticket, can he? :P

So this poem has made me think about just how much Mum is worth. Even with all the craziness of attempting to run for mayor, even with all the work she has been offered, and even when she’s not here, she always tries her best for her family. Thanks, Mum. :x

And Dad… even without his wife with him, he still manages to care for his three little women, and he doesn’t only takes care of us, he also teaches us to be independent. By always reminding us to wash the dishes, (and for myself) clean the car and water the plants in the extremely hot summer. Thanks too, Dad… :x

I love my family! (Yes, even if I slap you everyday, and even if you scratch me when I tickle the back of your neck I love you too, sisters)

Okay. That was a pointless entry…
